1. Information we collect

We collect information you provide directly to us when you create an account, use the app, or contact us for support, and a small amount of information automatically when you use MenuGenius.

• Account information: name and email address from Google or Apple sign-in. We request only the basic profile and email scopes — nothing else.
• Goals & preferences: the goal, diet, dislikes, and biometrics you tell us during onboarding so we can personalize recommendations.
• Location: approximate location, only when you actively search for nearby restaurants. We do not track location in the background.
• Camera & photos: only when you use the menu-scan feature. Images are sent to our service to extract menu text, used to produce a menu, and not retained beyond what is needed to deliver that result.
• Restaurant & menu data: we cache the menus we have parsed so the app stays fast for everyone. This data is not personal to you.
• Usage data: basic diagnostic and product analytics — what features are used, what crashes — used to improve the app.

2. How we use your information

• To provide, maintain, and improve MenuGenius.
• To generate personalized menu recommendations and calorie estimates.
• To send you transactional, technical, and support messages.
• To detect, investigate, and prevent abuse and fraud.
• To comply with legal obligations.

3. Information sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We do not use it for advertising. We share information only in these limited cases:

• With service providers (hosting, analytics, AI inference) under contracts that limit their use of the data to operating MenuGenius.
• To comply with applicable law, legal process, or enforceable governmental request.
• To protect the rights, property, or safety of MenuGenius, our users, or others.
• With your explicit consent.

4. Google user data

When you sign in with Google, MenuGenius requests only your basic profile information and email address. We do not access your Gmail, Drive, Calendar, or any other Google service. We use Google account data solely to authenticate you and label your account. Our use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

5. Data security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your information in transit and at rest. No method is perfect, but we work to keep your data safe and respond promptly to any suspected incidents.

6. Data retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you MenuGenius. You can delete your account at any time from within the app, after which your personal data is removed within a reasonable period, except where retention is required by law.

7. Your rights

• Access, update, or correct your personal information.
• Delete your account and the personal data associated with it.
• Export your data on request.
• Opt out of non-essential communications.

8. Children's privacy

MenuGenius is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy on this page and update the "Last updated" date. Material changes will be communicated through the app.
